Tonganoxie Arts Council names winners during inaugural sidewalk chalk competition

Sidewalk art covered plenty of cement canvasses in the 500 block of Fourth Street on Saturday during Tonganoxie Days.

Artists left their marks on Fourth Street on Saturday with the Tonganoxie Arts Council’s Sidewalk Chalk Art Competition.

Winning first place in the adult category was Toby Sanders of Tonganoxie with the “U.S. 250 Celebration” piece. Taking second were Eli Scott and Naomi Hart, also of Tonganoxie for their “We the People Birthday Celebration” block, while third place went to Brooke Jishkra of Kansas City, Missouri, for her “United States Eagle and 250 Scroll.”

Taking first place in the children’s 12-15 category was London Jishkra, KCMO for the “Liberty and Flag Happy 250th” piece.

Wynni King, Tonganoxie, placed second for “Liberty on Sunset” in that category, while Aireana Helms-Jones, Tonganoxie, placed third with “Statue of Liberty.”

First place in the 11 and younger category went to Sophie King for “Eagle Perching on Liberty Bell”.

Addison Colin, Lenexa, placed second for “250th Flag” and Valarie and Emmie Oswald third for “Friends Celebrating.”

Earning honorable mentions were Beth Hall, Topeka; Olivia Smith and Jazzy, Tonganoxie; Daniel Christ, Tonganoxie; and Nicole David, Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Other honorable mentions were Kaitlyn Schrader and Eli, Tonganoxie; Monica Robles, Kansas City, Kansas; Malsyn Kelly, Tonganoxie; and Adalynn Dexter, Tonganoxie.

The final batch of honorable mentions were Hannah Ernster, Tonganoxie; Clayton Kelly, Tonganoxie; Zallee Graham, Tonganoxie; and Rebecca Davis, Tonganoxie.
