Regionals Monday for Tonganoxie boys golf
The Tonganoxie High boys golf team competed Thursday in its longest course of the year.
THS competed at Junction City, which is a course coach Doug Sandburg said it was by far the longest course of the year for the Chieftains and a “great challenge” heading into regionals.
THS placed fifth overall. Manhattan won the meet, while Washburn Rural placed second, Sacred Heart of Salina third and Emporia fourth.
“This was a good field and we did a great job competing with several 6A and 5A schools,” Sandburg said.
Remi Baldock and Colton Brusven led the team by placing seventh and eighth, respectively (both shooting 80). The other counting scores were Gabe Seba (86) and Carter Gratton (91). The other golfers were Zac Fisher (95) and Lachlan McRae (97). The team shot a 337 and was 6 shots out of second place.
THS now directs its attention to regionals, which will be 9 a.m. Monday at Holton Country Club.
Other teams there will be Atchison, Baldwin, Eudora, Hilton, Ottawa, Bishop Miege, Hayden and Wamego. Other 4A regional sites are Buhler, Coffeyville and Ulysses.
The 4A state championships will be May 22-23 at Winfield’s Quail Ridge Golf Course.
THS JV wraps up play this week
Tonganoxie JV golfers will finish up the season this week at Lansing and Ottawa.
The team competed Thursday at the Perry-Lecompton tournament.
Aiden Van Middlesworth (89) and Wesley Johnson (97) led the team in scoring. The rest of the team was Gavin Reischman, Thatcher Page, Emmett Crookham and Noah Carlton.
