Officials probe cause of fire
State and county officials are investigating whether a blaze early Sunday at Manic Marty was caused by arson.
The fire at the bar/restaurant, 19916 McLouth Rd., started about 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Tonganoxie Township Fire Department responded after a neighbor noticed an orange glow from his window at Manic Marty. The township fire department was assisted by the Tonganoxie City Fire Department.
Officials have conducted several interviews and evidence has been sent to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation laboratory in Topeka, according to Major Dave Zoellner, Leavenworth County undersheriff.
Zoellner said he could not discuss specifics of the fire because the case is under investigation. However, it possible someone broke into the business, according to Dick Rosebrough, chief investigator for the state fire marshal office.
Rosebrough and Ron Ewert, Leavenworth County detective, are working on the case.
The fire also damaged a vacant apartment that was attached to the business. Damage is estimated at more than $50,000. In the business, a game room, small bar and dance floor sustained heavy damage, along with Karaoke equipment and a large-screen television.
am sure that the case will be solved,Zoellner said. e have some evidence, but not everybody wants to come forth and admit it. I think wee close, though.
