LANSING GIRLS 45, DE SOTO 39

Emily Babcock and Kija Cammock each scored nine points as Lansing defeated De Soto in the Tonganoxie Invitational opener for both teams.

Defending tournament champ Chanute led Jeff West by just three at halftime, but limited the Tigers to just nine second-half points in a 15-point win.

JWHS, the only newcomer in the girls field, took a 13-7 lead after one quarter, but the Blue Comets battled back to take a 21-18 lead into the locker room. They extended their advantage to nine after three quarters, and the Tigers failed to answer in the final period.

The Cardinals entered the second half leading by just two points, but extended the lead to six by the end of the third quarter. They led by as many as 16 late in the game, as the Tigers couldn't match Eudora's offensive firepower late.

Eudora got big days from Austin Downing and Mitchell Ballock, who scored 22 and 21 points, respectively. Meanwhile, Brent Roberts led Jeff West with 15. He was one of four Tigers to reach double figures.
