The Tonganoxie Invitational will return to town next week. The boys tournament is back for its 55th year, while the girls tournament returns for its 11th year.

LANSING GIRLS 45, DE SOTO 39

Emily Babcock and Kija Cammock each scored nine points as Lansing defeated De Soto in the Tonganoxie Invitational opener for both teams.

The Lions came out hot offensively, scoring 22 first-quarter points and taking an eight-point lead at the end of the period. The Wildcats cut the deficit to four at the break, 28-24, failed to complete the comeback in the second half.

De Soto’s Megan Bonar led all scorers with 17 points and Tori Marshall added 10 in the losing effort.

Lansing 14 10 8 7 — 39

De Soto 22 6 7 10 — 45

CHANUTE GIRLS 42, JEFF WEST 27

Defending tournament champ Chanute led Jeff West by just three at halftime, but limited the Tigers to just nine second-half points in a 15-point win.

JWHS, the only newcomer in the girls field, took a 13-7 lead after one quarter, but the Blue Comets battled back to take a 21-18 lead into the locker room. They extended their advantage to nine after three quarters, and the Tigers failed to answer in the final period.

Chanute’s Madi Rollins scored a game-high 20 points and Anna Bagshaw added 15. Olivia Brees paced Jeff West with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Jeff West 13 5 5 4 — 27

Chanute 7 14 11 10 — 42

EUDORA BOYS 73, JEFF WEST 60

A second-half surge powered Eudora to a 13-point quarterfinal win against Jeff West.

The Cardinals entered the second half leading by just two points, but extended the lead to six by the end of the third quarter. They led by as many as 16 late in the game, as the Tigers couldn’t match Eudora’s offensive firepower late.

Eudora got big days from Austin Downing and Mitchell Ballock, who scored 22 and 21 points, respectively. Meanwhile, Brent Roberts led Jeff West with 15. He was one of four Tigers to reach double figures.

Jeff West 14 17 15 14 — 60

Eudora 20 13 19 21 — 73

DE SOTO BOYS 52, HOLTON 50

After trailing by as many as nine in the second half, De Soto held off a late charge by Holton for a two-point victory.

DHS pushed a 25-21 halftime lead to 38-29 late in the third quarter, but Holton began chipping away at the deficit in the final period. The comeback came up just short, though, as De Soto did just enough on offense to escape with the win.

Holton’s Garrett Beecher and De Soto’s Dalton Verhulst led their respective teams with 16 points apiece.

De Soto 8 17 13 14 — 52

Holton 16 5 10 19 — 50

BLUE VALLEY SW BOYS 61, ATCHISON 35

A 19-7 first quarter gave Blue Valley all the momentum it needed as it cruised to a lopsided victory against Atchison.

The Timberwolves carried their hot start over to the second quarter and led by 23 at the break, 39-16. The deficit grew to as many as 26 in the second half.

ER Steffey led BVSW with 16 points, while Steven Andersen and Matt Wilkinson added 14 and 10, respectively. Jerome Luster led Atchison with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
