Taylor and two new city council members — Ron Cranor and Velda Roberts — will take office at the April 14 city council meeting.
Taylor, who has lived in Tonganoxie since 1985, said Tuesday night he would take a new approach to city government.
“I want people to feel comfortable when they come into city hall,” he said. “I don’t want to hear a lot of rejection because it is their house. I just want to change the whole tone — or try to.”
Taylor said he would like to examine the possibility of establishing a recreation center for the city’s teens, as well as set up transportation to area hospitals for the elderly.
School board incumbents fared well in Tuesday’s election. All who ran — Rick Lamb, Ron Moore, Kay Smith and Richard Dean — were re-elected. In addition, Leana Leslie won out over Kris Grinter for the seat currently occupied by Terry Needham. School board members’ terms will begin in July.
In the Basehor-Linwood school district, voters again rejected a $29.9 million school bond issue. In February, voters turned down the bond issue, but school officials decided to try again for passage.
