Board to interview principal candidates
A new Tonganoxie High School principal could be selected today at a special meeting of the Tonganoxie School Board.
The special meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Tonganoxie Middle School library. During the meeting, the board will interview three Tonganoxie High School principal candidates and will discuss personnel and negotiations.
The final candidates are: Alan Jeffery, principal at Prairie View High School, La Cygne; Donna Workman, principal at Wamego High School; and Jamie Carlisle, principal at Baxter Springs High School.
The board is trying to fill a vacancy left by the mid-March resignation of Tatia Shelton. She is on a paid leave of absence through June 30, which is when her contract expires.
Shelton and Tonganoxie Middle School assistant principal Darren Neas were suspended for three days on March 8. The school board lifted their suspensions on March 12. Shortly afterward, both administrators resigned their posts and have been on paid leave since.
The board also is looking to fill teaching positions at the high school for college English, social science and business education, as well as hiring an assistant transportation coordinator.
At its most recent special meeting, April 16, the board interviewed four candidates for the elementary school principal position. At the end of the night, the board hired TES assistant principal Tammie George.
