In the win column
Tonganoxie High coach Mark Elston gets to keep his hair.
A challenge at the homecoming bonfire Wednesday went like this: A Chieftain win against Santa Fe Trial meant THS administrators and instructors shaved their heads. A Chieftain loss meant Elston and several senior players had to shave their heads.
THS pulled out the homecoming win Friday, 19-6, as senior running back Kevin Gill scored on runs of 5 and 70 yards, while freshman quarterback Jeremy Carlisle scored on a 1-yard-run in with 4:35 left in the third quarter.
SFT came back with quarterback Cody Godshall’s 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth, but Tonganoxie held on for the win.
It also was Elston’s 50th career win. All of the wins have come in Tonganoxie, where he is in his eighth season.
