Homestead Pet Resort and Spa, west of Atchison, recently became the first corporate friend by contributing cash and animal care to LCHS.

Loretta Hiatt, the pet resort and spa owner, said she was proud but surprised to be first, and glad to support LCHS’s efforts.

“LCHS’s board of directors recognized a need and are doing what it takes to fulfill the mission of LCHS,” said Hiatt. “Homestead Pet Resort commends their leadership. We are happy to support the Board’s efforts anyway we can.”

Friends of LCHS is a new program that offers additional opportunities for supporting the Humane Society without the responsibilities or financial commitment expected of members. The friends program has individual and corporate components, and a variety of levels from which to choose. For $25, individuals can become a friend of LCHS. Corporate friends can donate $100 and be recognized as part of LCHS’s effort to improve the quality of life for people and pets in Leavenworth County. The ultimate goal is to build and operate a no-kill animal shelter to provide a full range of community oriented services — reuniting pets with their owners, helping owners retain their animals and caring for homeless animals until the right family comes along. A major focus is to eliminate pet abandonment in the county by providing a humane, legal and accessible alternative for all county residents.
