Enjoy the “State Qualifier” demolition derby at McLouth Threshing Bee Grounds at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18. Admission for adults is $10. Children 5 and under can enter for free. Pit side admission is $20.
McLouth Friendship Club’s covered dish luncheon will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at the community center. All adults over 50 are welcome. Please bring food to share and your table service.
McLouth Cub Scout Pack 81 will hold a parent and scout information night for boys in first through fifth grade and their parents at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, in the school library. Cub Scouting is fun with a purpose. Cub Scout activities encourage good behavior, teach lifelong values, involve a variety of family activities and strengthen the bonds of family. The University of Saint Mary community band will kick off its new season of rehearsals at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, in the Walnut Room on the second floor of Mead Hall on USM’s Leavenworth campus, 4100 South Fourth St.
The volunteer ensemble community band is made up of USM students, faculty and staff, as well as selected home-schooled students and students from area high schools and amateur and professional musicians from the surrounding community. This fall, the band will perform at the university’s Halloween and Christmas concerts.
It’s free to participate in the USM community band. No auditions are required. Area string players who are interested in performing with university ensembles are also invited.
Weekly community band rehearsals begin Aug. 27, but latecomers are welcome and are encouraged to join rehearsals on any Monday in September. There will be no rehearsal on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3.
