Face to Face: Steve Skeet of Skeet Real Estate
Name: Steve Skeet
Born: Wichita.
Family: Parents, BA and Debbie Skeet, Tonganoxie.
Occupation: Owner, Skeet Real Estate and Star Auction. Skeet recently was appointed to the Tonganoxie Public Library Board.
Dream job as a child: Entertainer.
Interesting fact: Skeet followed through with his dream job. Skeet was discovered at a mall where talent agencies were recruiting. He landed jobs as an extra on “Walker, Texas Ranger” as a cowboy, “Young and the Restless” as a server and on “Angel” as a townsperson. He also appeared on a Hillshire Farms commercial.
“It paid,” Skeet said with a laugh. “That was cool.”
Skeet also is a singer. He briefly had a record deal in Nashville after his mother and grandmother took him to an Opryland open audition.
Digging deeper: A 1997 Tonganoxie High graduate, Skeet attended Kansas State University and was a bus driver in Manhattan before driving for several years in the Tonganoxie school district.
Skeet certainly has worn many hats through the years. He also worked as assistant director of transportation for the Kansas Department of Education. In addition, he owned Skeeter’s Bar and Grill in Shawnee for three years. He started Skeetstar Entertainment as a DJ in 1999 and still has that business as well.
After his stint in transportation, Skeet worked in banking, specializing in mortgages.
Opening his own real estate business seemed to be the next natural step.
In January, he opened Skeet Real Estate at 1014 Front St. in Tonganoxie at the former Meadows Construction.
“Having multiple businesses is just what I enjoy doing,” Skeet said. “It was the logical step. Real estate is growing and the housing market is getting better. It was the ideal time to start Skeet Real Estate.”
The THS graduate started the business with Joanna Eibes at the beginning of the year. They now have six real estate agents and are actively recruiting more.
“We have a really good training program for agents,” he said. “That seems to be the biggest attraction for agents.”
