Tonganoxie, McLouth teams won’t have to travel far for substate, regional action

Postseasons for winter sports still are more than two months away, but regional and substate sites have been announced.

Tonganoxie basketball teams have been assigned to the Class 4A-I substate at Piper. Joining THS and Piper are Basehor-Linwood and Sumner Academy.

Other substate sites are Altamont-Labette County, Augusta, Hays, Paola, Bishop Miege in Roeland Park, Topeka Hayden and Winfield.

McLouth basketball teams will stay in Jefferson County for their Class 2A substate assignments.

MHS teams will play at a substate in Valley Falls. Joining VFHS and McLouth are Jackson Heights, Bishop Seabury, Olathe-Heritage Christian, Kansas City Christian, Maranatha Academy, Troy and Jefferson County North.

Other 2A sites are Claflin-Central Plains, Herington, Hill City, Inman, Oswego, Spearville and Wakefield.

Basketball substates will be played March 5-7.

Class 4A-I state will be March 11-14 at the Salina Bicentennial Center. Class 2A state will be at Bramlage Coliseum on the Kansas State University campus in Manhattan.

The Tonganoxie High wrestling team will head south for regionals Feb. 20 and 21.

THS will be in the Baldwin regional. Joining Baldwin and Tonganoxie are Atchison, Basehor-Linwood, Bonner Springs, De Soto, Eduora, Holton, Royal Valley, Bishop Ward, Piper, Sumner Academy, Jeff West, Perry-Lecompton, Santa Fe Trail and Bishop Miege.

Other regional sites are Hays, Louisburg and Pratt. State will be Feb. 27 and 28 at the Salina Bicentennial Center.
