Construction work continues on the site for the new Tonganoxie Elementary School. The project is one of a few that can be seen throughout Tonganoxie. There could be even more in 2014.

Tonganoxie’s new elementary school currently is coming in about $1.1 million under budget, HTK architects told the USD 464 school board Monday.

With the lower budget, HTK gave the board upgrade options for cabinetry, flooring, roofing and the new school’s elevator.

The board approved extended cabinetry space in the classrooms for just more than $64,000.

Asphalt and landscape work will be bid closer to project completion.

Board OK’s agreement with city

The board approved an agreement that would waive some fees associated with the new building. The school district would pay about $182,000 for inspection and other fees. The city would waive about $139,000 in other fees under the agreement. The city council will have a final say when it votes on the measure Tuesday.

Contracts approved

The board approved Preston Troyer as head high school girls track coach and Robert Lewis as custodian/crosswalk guard (internal transfer from Tonganoxie Elementary School). Troy Hogue resigned as custodian/crosswalk guard.
