The Salina Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1pphYdz ) a film crew spent two recent days at Maico Industries in Ellsworth capturing the transformation of steel coils into poles for traffic lights, highway signs and other uses.

Steel poles capable of withstanding hurricanes might not seem like a glamorous TV show topic. But the film crew said everyday objects are the stars of “How It’s Made.”

The Ellsworth plant’s 45 employees make an average of 20 poles a day, ranging up to 8 feet in diameter and from 5 to 60 feet long in one piece.

Footage from the Maico shoot is expected to air in six to nine months.
