This year’s parade theme is “Honor, Remember & Never Forget Those Who Protect Us.” More than 250 participants have been invited to participate, with 170 committed entries. The 2014 Parade Grand Marshal is Army veteran David R. Thomas, and parade chairman this year is Army veteran Keith Melick, who represents American Legion Byron H. Mehl Post 23.

Due to repair work being done on Riverfront Community Center and street work on 5th Street between Oak and Walnut, the parade route will begin at 4th and Cherokee Street heading east to 2nd Street. It will then turn north to Delaware, west to 7th Street, south to Cherokee, and east on Cherokee to 6th Street, where parade will disband.

Monetary awards will be given for best floats in first, second and third place categories. Parade participants are requested to assemble after 9 a.m. Prior to assembling, parade participants must go to parade information booth, west parking lot of Leavenworth Public Library for their specific location of line up.

The Leavenworth Rotary Club will sponsor its annual Veterans Breakfast morning of parade, 7-10am, Riverfront Community Center, $6, with all disabled veterans getting breakfast free. After parade, there will be open houses at V.F.W. Post 56 and American Legion Post 94.
