Woman pleads no contest in child endangerment
A 22-year-old woman pleaded no contest to one count of aggravated child endangerment.
Ashley Lingenfelser recently entered the plea in Leavenworth County District Court.
According to the Leavenworth County Attorney’s office, an individual called the Tonganoxie Police Department regarding the bruising on Lingenfelser’s 18-month-old son.
The child had bruising in various stages of healing that included bruising on both legs. In addition to the bruising, he had numerous marks on his torso, neck and head. He also had a large bruise on his shoulder, according to police. The child was taken to Children’s Mercy where he was substantiated for child physical abuse. Officials reported that this was the second substantiated incident of child abuse on the 18-month-old in 17 months.
Lingenfelser was interviewed by Tonganoxie police and informed law enforcement that she suspected the caregiver had caused the injuries. In spite of that, she left her child with the caregiver the following week while she went to court for her divorce hearing, according to police.
