Tonganoxie Live social is Thursday
The Tonganoxie Live social is an event organizers hope will bring various local organizations, businesses and groups together Thursday.
In the process, it is bringing the Tonganoxie City Council into the conversation.
The event also will serve as a town hall meeting for the council, which will interact with citizens but take no action at the meeting, which the council is deeming a work session.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Chieftain Room on the Tonganoxie High School east campus. The room is just inside the school’s main entrance.
Monica Gee, owner of Wizard of Paws, is one of the organizers of Tonganoxie Live, a Facebook page designed to post community events and other calendar items.
“If we want our community to thrive, we have to be able to be connected and know what’s going on,” Gee said.
People who attend are asked to bring information about their group or business. Organizers want to include the information in the notes section of the
Rachel Kelly, Tammie McCutchen and Jenny Worden are the page’s other administrators.
Gee said the Tonganoxie school district, Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurs Achieving Success Together are on board with the Facebook page.
“I think that’s making a great push in the right direction,” Gee said.
Business owners and representatives also are welcome to attend the social. Gee said they will be included in the community directory “so we can all shop and support local.”
There will be a PowerPoint presentation as part of the social.
Organizers hope Thursday’s event will help kickstart a more cohesive Tonganoxie.
Representatives from civic organizations, clubs, groups and churches are encouraged to join businesses at the event. School employees and other residents are encouraged to attend.
