ELECTION CENTRAL: Stieben wins County Commission race with 76% of vote
Incumbent Mike Stieben won re-election to the Leavenworth County Commission in resounding fashion Tuesday.
Stieben garnered 2,126 votes compared to challenger Brad Noll’s 674 in the Republican primary with 8 of 8 precincts reporting, according to the county’s election page at leavenworthcounty.gov. Stieben, a locomotive engineer with BSNF from rural Tonganoxie, won with 73% of the vote against Noll, a former paramedic and volunteer firefighter with a long career in agriculture from rural Winchester in Alexandria Township.
There are no other primary races for the commission seat that includes Tonganoxie, so the winner of the Republican primary likely will win the seat in November.
Stieben has been a county commissioner the past three years, holdin the Fifth District seat since its inception when Leavenworth County voters approved expanding the county commission from a three-person board to five.
