Library Corner: Mafia in KC program; Creating Lotus lanterns
Shawn Linenberger
Tonganoxie Public Library, 217 E. Fourth St.The Mafia in KC program happening Wednesday
Kansas City has a long history with organized crime and was steeped in illegal and corrupt activities including Mob connections to the political scene and the Teamsters Union.
Take an insider’s look into our connection to the mafia at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with our presenter Frank Hayde, a career law enforcement officer with Kansas City roots that stretch back to the 19th century. He’s the author of “Mafia Dreams” and “The Mafia and the Machine.” Frank will have a few copies of his books available, if you’d like to purchase a copy for signing after the program at Tonganoxie Public Library.
Experience Korea with lotus lanterns at the library
Join the Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project to create a beautiful lotus lantern at the library next month.
During our program, which is slated for 6-7:30 p.m. May 11, we’ll follow along step-by-step with our virtual presenter to create a colorful and delicate lotus lantern. We’ll learn about the significance of the lotus flower and the Lotus Lantern Festival.
Following our craft, we’ll be treated to a short film about Korea where we can learn more about the country’s history and culture. Korean snacks and tea will be provided, too.
This program is for adults and those 14 years and older, and registration is required.
