AG SECTION: National FFA grants lead to new opportunities at farmers market

By Staff | Mar 27, 2026

FFA student grants are helping create a partnership between Tonganoxie High School students and the Tonganoxie Farmers Market.

Siblings Veda Alvarez-Reischman and Corbin Reischman were awarded National FFA supervised agriculture experience grants in beekeeping and milling science, respectively.

Both will be selling goods at the Tonganoxie Farmers Market as part of their projects.

Corbin will be selling different types of flour that he will be milling from whole grains. And Veda will be selling honey and beeswax products.

For Veda’s project, it will take a little time before she can sell bee products because the bee season hasn’t quite kicked off yet. Veda also plans to sell some items that she has sewn.

In addition, Corbin and Veda have offered to allow fellow 4-H and FFA members who have projects to also set up shop at their booth at the farmers market. Youths will sell homemade or homegrown products or provide information about their projects at the vendor booth.

The National FFA SAE grants offer entrepreneur and leadership components to FFA members. Recipients also must catalog expenses and keep diligent records.

The Tonganoxie Farmers Market was established in 2021 and takes place from mid-May to mid-October. The weekly market is 5:30-8 p.m. Thursdays during the market season.

Local farmers and other vendors sell their wares at the market, which takes place in the Tonganoxie Public Library parking lot, 217 S. Pleasant St.
