Leavenworth County residents will be celebrating 100 years of agriculture successes this summer.

This year’s Leavenworth County Fair will be July 28-Aug. 1 at the fairgrounds in Tonganoxie.

The first year, 1926, was a celebration of a bumper crop of corn in downtown Tonganoxie, and the next year it was corn and apples. The event officially was known as the Leavenworth County Fair in 1928 and in 1938 moved from downtown to its current site along Kansas Highway 16 at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.

Fair organizers are gearing up for a big celebration commemorating 100 years of the fair. Particulars about this year’s milestone installment will be announced as the Leavenworth County Fair draws closer, but in the meantime, anyone with memories such as photos or clippings can submit them to The Mirror. Information can be sent to news editor Shawn F. Linenberger at slinenberger@tonganoxiemirror.com. Be sure to type “Leavenworth County Fair memories in the subject line.
