Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. today at the Administration Building at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds, 405 W. Fourth St. in Tonganoxie.

The fairgrounds will open up 45 minutes before the 6 p.m. meeting begins, according to a post on the county’s social media page. There will only be 200 chairs available. Capacity has been set at 750, so beyond the 200 chairs will be standing room.

Commissioner Mike Stieben, who represents the Fifth District (which includes Tonganoxie), proposed that the meeting last until 9 p.m. Fellow commissioners approved the motion at a recent meeting in Leavenworth. Residents will have three minutes each to share their concerns at the forum.

Stieben also proposed a countywide vote whether to approve the data center, but the motion failed, 2-2. Stieben and Mike Smith voted in favor, Jeff Culbertson and Vanessa Reid voted against and Willie Dove was absent.

Citzens Against Bluestem members continue to have a presence at meetings and on social media voicing concerns about the massive data center and urging officials to slow the process on a topic that has become a national debate as the midterms loom with the general election in November.
