Tonganoxie Success Center has more students complete program at semester

The Tonganoxie Success Center had 10 students complete the academic program during the fall semester. That positions them to earn their diplomas.
The center also ended the semester with nine active students. In total, those 19 students completed 147 classes for 73.5 credits.
Phillips shared the update with the school board during Monday’s meeting.
The information came from Mark Padfield, dean and teacher at the center
Padfield noted that the center had two discipline issues related to vape pens, “but other than that it was a quiet semester with zero behavioral issues.”
The success center starts the new semester with 11 students.
It’s likely that that number will increase after students get a few weeks into the semester, as has been the pattern historically.
“Thank you for continuing to support this program,” Padfield said in his report. “I truly believe it is one of the best additions we have made for students (and staff) in the 20 years I have been here.”
Board Vice President Chris Gratton asked whether those receiving diplomas are eligible to participate in commencement exercises at THS in May.
Phillips explained that the state requires students to earn at least 21 credits to receive a diploma. THS requires 28 credits to graduate and participate in its graduation ceremony. So students will receive a diploma regardless, whether through the Success Center or through THS by earning the additional credits.
