Local judge (and Tonganoxie alum) speaks to THS, TMS classes

A Tonganoxie High School alum spoke to American Government classes at Tonganoxie middle and high schools.

Douglas County Judge Carl Folsom III spoke to TMS teacher Debbie Holloway’s class and THS teacher Mike McClellan’s class. Folsom gave a presentation to and answered questions from Tonganoxie students.

He currently is a Douglas County District Court judge and is a former public defender. He’s also been selected twice by the governor to be seated in the Kansas State Court of Appeals. He was appointed to the Douglas County bench in 2022 and currently handles cases involving general civil litigation, domestic and limited actions. He became an adjunct professor of trial advocacy in 2018.

Folsom is a graduate of the University of Kansas and the University of Kansas School of Law. In 2019, he was awarded the inaugural Clarence Darrow Award from the Kansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, an award given for excellence in trial advocacy. In 2021, he was awarded the Kansas Bar Association’s Courageous Attorney Award, which recognizes a lawyer who has displayed exceptional courage in the face of adversity.

Folsom graduated from THS in 1998.
