Tonganoxie Days will be Sept. 17-19, 2021, with most of the festivities taking place on Sept. 18.

Tonganoxie’s annual festival will be ringing in with a bang again Friday night, but plenty more activities will be available Saturday.

Tongie Days will be this weekend at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds and in the downtown area.

On Friday night, there will be the second annual Tonganoxie Recreation Commission fireworks show. This year’s event also will have musical entertainment in advance of the fireworks display.

Friday’s festivities will start at 7:30 p.m. with shaving cream T-ball, watermelon explosions and hula hoop dancing.

Local acoustic duo Trainwreck Allie will provide a musical performance. Elle’s Mobile Bakery also will be on site for a food option at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.

Around 9 p.m. the fireworks display will start and is expected to go until 10 p.m.

It will be busy night with the THS homecoming crowning and football game taking place as well starting at 6:30 p.m. with the coronation and 7 p.m. for the football game.

On Saturday, food trucks will be available from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. on Fourth Street.

The Tonganoxie Library Run is making its return starting at 8 a.m. downtown. The event is the library’s largest fundraiser of the year.

From 9 a.m.-1 p.m. there will be a children’s carnival, large yard games, inflatables and a petting zoo.

Craft vendors also will be part of the festivities and will be at Tongie Days from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Later in the day comes the live music and street dance.

Josh and Whitney Vowell will perform 3:30-4:30 p.m. Mark and the Sharks will take the stage 5-7 p.m. and Undercover will perform at 7:30 p.m.

Also taking place in addition to Tongie Days on Saturday is the Tonganoxie Auto Tech Car Show. It will be 8-10:30 a.m. at THS.

Tongie Days festivities conclude Sunday with the Tonganoxie fire and police departments squaring off for their annual charity softball game.

The game will start at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Tonganoxie Recreation Commission fields near the fairgrounds.

The fairgrounds also will be busy Saturday morning with the annual Tonganoxie Invitational cross country meet. Races will start at 8 a.m. Other teams joining THS will be Basehor-Linwood, Bishop Seabury Academy, FL Schlagle, Heritage Christian Academy, JC Harmon, Piper, Pleasant Ridge, St. Mary’s Academy, Turner, Veritas Christian, Washington and Wyandotte.
