Spring-forward food demo program is next week

It’s a garden party with K-State Research & Extension at the Knowledge at Noon food program on Tuesday at Tonganoxie Public Library.

With sunnier days ahead, you’ll want to start thinking about fresh produce picks straight from the garden. Join us for some garden-fresh recipes that will “turnip the beet” to any spring party at noon Tuesday.

Knowledge at Noon includes information, a food demonstration, sampling and a packet of recipes to take home.

Two-part writing workshop begins next week

The library is excited to offer a two-part introductory writing workshop series where participants will get to explore the art of personal storytelling with Becky Jeeves.

Learn how to transform your lived experiences into story using the tools of narrative craft. The first workshop is 6-8 p.m. March 10 and the second one will be 6-8 p.m. March 24. Both workshops will include some free-writing and use of prompts to encourage the process. Reading and commenting on each other’s work is optional but encouraged. No registration is required, but participants should bring a notepad, pen, or computer.

While geared more toward adults, teens 13 years and older are welcome to come too!

Spices giveaway is next week

Have an adventure in spice with us this month!

We’ll be handing out spice packets twice this month. Each packet will contain a spice blend, suggestions for use, and a recipe to try and is fully free to pick up.

They are available at the front desk, while supplies last and one per family.

On March 9 we’ll hand out the Adobo seasoning packet and on March 23 it will be the Montreal Steak seasoning packet. Then try out even more spice by signing up for our Cooking with Spices program at 6:30 p.m. March 31 with LJ Harrison from spice company Salt and Sky.

We’ll learn more about spices and even create a tasty and easy herby/spice blend dip to taste. Call the library at 913-845-3281 to be included for that program.
