The gymnasium at the TRC Activity Center is used for various programs and activities. The gym floor is going to be replaced and will be off limits for 4-8 weeks this summer.

It will be time to release the pooches next month in Tonganoxie.

Hill’s Nutrition Bark Park is expected to open next month at 222 Tonganoxie Drive.

Tonganoxie Recreation Commission recently announced on its website that the 6-acre park is set to open in May. TRC also posted on social media that officials hope to have a grand opening around the third week of May.

Dog-play areas were over-seeded in some areas and Southern Star donated and planted trees earlier this month, according to the TRC website. Grass also continues to grow and mature.

Passersby will notice some additions in the coming weeks as well.

A climbing apparatus for youths is expected to be delivered and installed soon, as will trash receptacles and pet-waste bag stations.

Within the next week and installation will begin shortly. The shade canopy will be reinstalled in the next few weeks. Trash receptacles, pet waste/bag stations and official park rules will be installed soon as well.

And this fall, plans are in the works to add play equipment for the dogs in the two sections designated for small dogs and large dogs.

Additional amenities: concrete parking, shade structure, drinking fountains, pet waste collection stations, a covered picnic area and a children’s play zone.

The park also provides a lighted walking trial that helps integrate the area into the existing Chieftain Trail walkway.

Hill’s Pet Nutrition provided a substantial contribution to the park with support from TRC.

Generously funded by a substantial contribution from Hill’s Pet Nutrition and supported by the Tonganoxie Recreation Commission, the new park will include separate play areas tailored for large and small dogs, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for pets to socialize and exercise. Additional amenities included in the design are concrete parking, shade structure, drinking fountains, pet waste collection stations, a covered picnic area, and a children’s play zone. Moreover, the park’s design will feature a lighted walking trail that seamlessly integrates with Tonganoxie Drive’s existing trail network, enhancing accessibility and connectivity within the community.
