Tonganoxie Days returning to its roots Saturday

Tonganoxie Days is making the return to its original time slot this week.
The annual festival, which is has been around for more than 40 years, was the second week of June for many years. Organizers moved the festival to September in recent years, but it’s moving back to its original slot in June.
Festivities kick off at 8 a.m. Saturday with the Tonganoxie Library Run. There also will be yoga at Gallagher Park and the VFW Car Show at VFW Park.
The library run 5K and 10K will begin and end west of the library grounds on Church Street. For more information or to register, visit the library’s website at tonganoxielibrary.org.
Children’s games and activities will be available on Delaware Street between Third and Fourth streets from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., while craft vendors will be on Fourth Street from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Food trucks will be on Main Street near Gallagher Park from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. in the Midwest Carpet parking lot. Food trucks that will be anchored in that area this year are the Service Station, Country Girl food, Frog Hoppin’ BBQ and Kettle Korn, Reynolds Snack Shack and Generation X.
Other family activities that will be offered are face painting, temporary tattoos and rock painting. Beaks n Wings parrot rescue, adoption and education, as well as Thorni Ridge Exotics petting zoo also will be on hand. Craft vendors will be situated along Fourth Street.
The petting zoo will in the grassy area north of Cedar Hill Mall at Third and Main streets, while the birds will be in the shaded area between the former Ol Doc’s Pop Shop and Bailey’s School of Dance in the 600 block of East Fourth Street.
The face painting, temporary tattoos and rock painting will be south of the children’s game on Fourth Street.
Live music will start at 4 p.m. at Gallagher Park.
Chris Stewart will perform from 4-5 p.m. and then the Candice Hill Duo will perform from 5:20-6:20 p.m.
Blue 88 takes the stage at 6:40 p.m. and will perform until 8 p.m.
Capping off the evening will be the Ronni Ward Band from 8:20-10 p.m.
Z&M Twisted Vines Winery and the 1866 truck will be serving drinks in the parking lot just south of Gallagher Park as the musicians perform.
Chris Stewart plays a variety of country music, while Candice Hill specializes in steel pan and percussion and will perform with Mario Lozoya.
Blue 88 plays blues rock and the Ronni Ward Band performs pop rock from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.

Kickball game is Friday night
Anyone wanting to get a head start on Tonganoxie Days can head to Beatty Field on Friday night.
The Tonganoxie police and fire departments will square off at 7 p.m. that day for a kickball game. There also will be a touch-a-truck event and a cookout as part of this year’s fundraiser. Proceeds will benefit the Tonganoxie High School cheer squad.
