Rev. Matthew Wilke speaks to the Tonganoxie USD 464 school board Monday during the board’s regular meeting. The district recently denied a space rental request from Tonganoxie United Methodist Church to use the professional development room at the USD 464 Administrative Center for services temporarily while renovations take place in the foyer at the church. The track at Beatty Field will get a respray for nearly $99,000.
Board members approved a low bid of $98,700 from Pro Track and Tennis, Inc., a Nebraska company.
Other bids came from MAC for $99,230 and Fisher Tracks for $107,256.
Maintenance director Mitch Loomis said the track maintenance is supposed to take place every eight years after installation.
“This is an absolute must-do,” he said. “You’ll see another in eight years.”
He said the respray happens twice and then a new track will need to be installed, so the next respray would be around 2033 and then a new track would need to be installed around 2040. The respray covers all track services, so in addition to the track, it also will cover pole vault and high jump areas.
Board members approved the measure, 6-0, with Justin Sturgeon not able to attend the meeting.

The district also is getting rid of two buses, a 2004 Thomas bus and a 2006 International bus. The Thomas bus was required to be decomissioned as part of guidelines for a Clean Air Grant the district received for a new bus. The International bus has not been running since 2023, and the transportation department has been advised that repair costs would be more than the bus’ total value.
Board members approved, 6-0, listing the International bus on Purple Wave. Proceeds will go toward capital outlay.
