Tonganoxie City Council approves salt purchase for winter

Tonganoxie City Council Chambers are moving to the former public library at Third and Bury streets. In-person meetings also available for viewing on a city YouTube Channel could start with the Jan. 19 regular meeting.Tonganoxie City Council members approved a purchase of rock salt for the upcoming winter season.
The council approved the lowest bid from Central Salt for roughly 100 tons of rock for $6,840. As the city has done in previous years, public works staff utilized bids from Leavenworth County’s 2026 salt bid. The price is $62.19 per ton. Last year’s lowest bid also was Central Salt at $58.67 per ton. The $6,840 will cover an additional 5-10 tons more than the amount ordered due to variables such as shipping load capacity.
Council meets in executive session
The council met for 25 minutes in executive session to discuss consultation with an attorney on land developments.
City Manager George Brajkovic, Assistant City Manager Dan Porter, City Attorney Anna Krstulic and City Clerk Lindsay Huntington joined the council in executive session.
Second October meeting canceled
The council next will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 2.
Due to scheduling conflicts with upcoming conferences for city staff, the council voted to cancel the Oct. 19 meeting.
