Santa Fe Trail, Ward reach state baseball

The Kaw Valley League will have two teams in this year’s Class 4A baseball tournament in Salina.

Bishop Ward, the defending state champion, is the No. 4 seed. The Cyclones, at 18-4, will play No. 5 Wichita Collegiate (17-4) at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Santa Fe Trail, which grabbed the No. 6 seed with a 17-6 record, will play No. 3 Wamego (16-2) at 11 a.m. Friday.

In Class 3A, Pleasant Ridge will make its first state appearance since the school started a baseball program in 1999.

The Rams, who defeated McLouth in a regional semifinal in Oskaloosa last week, take a 16-7 record into its quarterfinal game against No. 3 Silver Lake (18-3). The game will start at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Manhattan.
