Lorilei Witt, president of Tonganoxie Elementary School's Parent Teacher Club.

Name: Lorelei (Garcia) Witt

Born: March 20, 1980, at Munson Army Hospital in Leavenworth.

Family: Husband, Josh, is a journeyman lineman for PAR Electric; daughter, Jenna, 10, fourth grade; son Tayber, 8, second grade; and son Beckham, almost 2.

Occupation: Family nurse practitioner at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Witt also is president of the Tonganoxie Elementary School Parent Teacher Club.

Dream job as a child: Doctor.

Digging deeper: A 1998 McLouth High School graduate, Witt went to Kansas University to earn a nursing degree. She later went to graduate school at KU, spending seven years total working on her degrees at KU.

She also worked six years in labor and delivery at University of Kansas Hospital.

“I went to school full-time and worked full-time,” Witt said about her hectic schedule. “I didn’t have kids. I’m not sure what I was thinking back then.”

Josh is a 1996 Tonganoxie High School graduate, but they didn’t meet until mutual friends introduced them after high school.

Witt said she doesn’t have a lot of free time for hobbies, but always has loved to travel. Her older two children have traveled on family trips to Mexico and Walt Disney World. They also went with her to San Francisco when she was attending a conference there. Her grandparents went along on the trip and took care of the children while she went to the conference, Witt said. She said she hopes to get the youngest child involved in some travel as well.

Witt said the PTC presidential duties take up her free time, but she’s OK with that.

“That’s good though,” she said. “I get to be involved with the kiddos and still feel like I’m helping out.”

She also likes to run and will be running with the entire family at a color run Oct. 18 in Lawrence.
