There won’t be a shortage of options on how to spend Saturday in the area.
Several events are planned in the area, including three in Tonganoxie.
Team Tongie, Kansas University Dance Marathon run, walk event
The Making Strides for Change 5K Run/1 Mile Walk is a new event that will benefit Kansas University Dance Marathon and Team Tongie.
The event starts at 8 a.m. Sept. 13 in Tonganoxie.

Tonganoxie High School Almost Golf Tourney
The Tonganoxie High School golf team will have its fifth annual Almost Golf Tournament on Sept. 13 on the THS campus.
The 18-hole “golf course” will be played with 9 irons only and an “almost golf” ball.
Fee is $15 per person or $30 per team. Students play for $10. There also is a 72-golfer limit.
Hole sponsorship is available for the tournament, which starts at 10 a.m. Registration is due Sept. 10.
Proceeds will go toward Team Tongie and the THS golf team.
Touch-a-Truck at the library
Youths can get an up-close glimpse of various vehicles at Tonganoxie Public Library’s annual Touch-a-Truck event.
Emergency vehicles and others will be on display from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the library, which is at Third and Bury streets in Tonganoxie.
Go Dog Go benefit
Basehor Community Library and Wagg’n Tails Day Spa are joining forces again to host Go Dog Go, a benefit for the Leavenworth County Humane Society.
The event will start at 7:30 a.m. Saturday in Basehor City Park.
The run begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk at 10 a.m. Paid pre-registration gets humans a T-shirt, and a bandana for their dog, as well as a goody bag with items from sponsors and vendors.
Registration is open through the Basehor Community Library website, in person at the library, or be emailing LvnCoHS@live.com. Participants can also register online by submitting payment through the link on the Go Dog Go event page on Facebook, bit.ly/1jmgkrC.
Run for $20, walk for $20 or do both for $30 in advance. On-site registration will also be available. Dogs must be at least 4 months of age, healthy, on-leash, wearing an ID tag, vaccinated against rabies, and walked by someone age 12 or older. Dogs in any stage of heat will not be allowed to participate. The event is primarily for people and dogs, but mini-horses, pigs, lambs and goats would be allowed to participate on a case-by-case basis.
The organizers also are soliciting vendors of pet-related products and services. Vendor forms are on the Basehor Community Library website, or email LvnCoHS@live.com.
R.U.N. 2 Jesus Golf Tourney
A local youth group is having a golf fundraiser.
Cornerstone Family Worship’s R.U.N. 2 Jesus Golf Tournament will start at 1:30 p.m. at Village Greens Golf Course, Ozawkie.
Cost is $60 per golfer and sponsorship opportunities for businesses also are available. Funds from the inaugural tournament will help send students in the R.U.N.2Jesus youth group to retreats, assist in purchasing equipment for its youth band and help reach youths through multiple outreach programs.
