By Shawn Linenberger - | Sep 16, 2014

Name: Jarrod Gill

Born: Phoenix

Family: Wife, Kriste; two children.

Occupation: Patrol sergeant with Tonganoxie Police Department.

Dream job as a child: Ultimately either law enforcement or the military.

Digging Deeper: Gill is a 2000 high school graduate Sunrise Mountain High School. He attended Arizona State University and worked at 24-Hour Fitness health club where he met his future wife.

“She was from Kansas, so that’s how I got to be in the state,” Gill said.

He worked a few jobs, including a stint in the mortgage business.

Gill finished up his schooling at Kansas University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history, but he eventually decided his true passion was in law enforcement.

“I talked to the wife and she gave me the blessing,” Gill said. “You have to have your family’s support.”

Gill started with the Tonganoxie Police Department in 2009.

The Arizona transplant said he’s dedicated to both his family and his job.

“When I’m at home, I really like to dive into family stuff,” Gill said. “When at work I’m really diving into work. I like to have a good separation. No work at home; no home at work.”

Gill’s wife is from Lawrence and has helped transform Gill into quite the KU fan.

“I didn’t really understand all the hype around KU basketball before I moved here,” he said. “And now that I’ve moved here, of course I’m hooked. It’s always fun to watch, win or lose.”

Gill said he tries to get out on a motorcycle when he can. He also has competed in submission grappling contests since 2000.

“It’s a great way to get a workout in and learn things that now are kind of applicable to staying safe,” he said.

He previously boxed competitively, but now does it for recreation and fitness.

“There are much faster gentlemen out there,” Gill said with a laugh.
