Holiday hours

The Tonganoxie Public Library will be closed on Monday in observance of Labor Day.

The digital library resources of hoopla and the Sunflower elibrary are always open, and the physical library will reopen on Tuesday.

Book talk series starting in September

This fall the library is hosting a three-part book talk series called Dearly Beloved.

The series will start with the first session from 6:30-8 p.m. Sept. 10 and the first book is “The Measure” by Nikki Erlick. The series is meant to encourage thought and discussion as it relates to our lives, quality vs. quantity of life and even our deaths.

Each discussion will be led by Sr. Rosemary Kolich who is a professor emeritus of English at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth where she has taught for 25 years. Future book talk discussions will happen on Oct. 8 and Nov. 12. Those interested can pick up the first book at the front desk or online with hoopla. Though it’s not necessary to attend all of the discussions, it will be a valuable experience if you do!

New activities for kids

Starting in September, the library’s children’s librarian will have a few new activities for kids to try out.

The first new offering is called Kids Crafternoons, which will happen at 4:45 p.m. on the first and fourth Tuesdays. This is for ages 6 and older and will feature new crafts each time. This coming Tuesday will be clay lanterns and Sept. 23 will be recycled paper.

Another new activity is bingo just for kids. This has proven to be so popular that it will now happen monthly at 3:45 p.m. the first Thursday.

Food demo and sampling program returns in September

The monthly Knowledge at Noon program is back in September on Sept. 9 with soups.

It’s going to be a “souper” session! Participants will learn how to stretch protein sources, how to preserve different soups and taste test recipes they’ll want to make all season long.

Presented by K-State Research and Extension. No registration is required to attend this tasty program!
