A new mural greets visitors who enter the Tonganoxie Recreation Commission Activity Center gymnasium through its main downstairs entrance. TRC expanded its hours of operations a couple weeks ago and staff look to continue to add more offerings.

Tonganoxie will be having a snowball fight Friday.

Tonganoxie Recreation Commission, along with Tonganoxie Public Library and Grounded Coffeehouse is organizing the event, which will be 5-6 p.m. Friday at Chieftain Park, weather permitting.

All ages are welcome and snowball launching starts at 5:15 p.m.

Visitors also can grab a free hot chocolate courtesy of Grounded Coffeehouse. Regardless of how packable the snow is Friday, folks can still stop by for their hot chocolate.

Organizers also remind everyone to dress accordingly and wear coats, hats, scarves, mittens, gloves and so on.

Rec and Roll playground event postponed

Parents as Teachers Tonganoxie and Tonganoxie Recreation Commission is joining forces to open the indoor playground at TRC and originally was going to do so at special time Friday, but the event has been postponed.

A makeup date has not been set yet, but TRC will announce it on social media. Per the TRC Facebook page, “Rec & Roll Night has been canceled with a reschedule to be announced soon. Keep those littles warm and indoors, and we will let you know the new date as soon as possible!”

Rec and Roll is for youths ages infant-5 years old.

Parents as Teachers members and TRC members can participate for free at Rec and Roll. Nonmembers can participate for $3 per child or use a 10-visit punch card ($27), which also is available for purchase.
