Jessica Lynn Fleer is the second defendant to be convicted in the case, according to a release from the office of Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson.
According to court documents filed Feb. 19, the charge stemmed from an Oct. 17, 2024, incident in which a black poodle, about 2 years old, was found in the middle of Tonganoxie Drive near 199th Street. Two individuals captured the dog, which was later taken to a veterinarian for treatment, per the release.
Court records state the poodle was severely malnourished, infested with fleas and had matted fur. A scan of the dog’s microchip revealed that Jessica and Amanda Fleer owned the dog.
On Aug. 15, Amanda Fleer, 42, also pleaded no contest and was found guilty of cruelty to animals.
Sentencing for both women is scheduled for Sept. 19.
“We have a responsibility to properly care for animals,” Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson said. “We will continue to hold people accountable when they fail to meet even the most basic standards of care for pets and animals.”
