The shop currently has a fan system with heat, but does not have an air conditioning system.

Board members approved a bid from Complete Heating and Air Conditioning for $31,918.

The bid includes an A/C unit and an air handler. Both come with a five-year parts warranty, one-year labor warranty and one-year maintenance plan (both carry a $230 value).

Board members also approved a 27-passenger bus that includes spaces for three wheelchairs. A story on that purchase will appear in next week’s print edition of The Mirror. The board also had future discussions about future plans for the area along the U.S. Highway 24-40 curve west and south of the administrative center, which is west of the THS campus. They also discussed potential future plans for a practice facility for football and track near the elementary and middle school campuses.

In other business, the school board:

• Approved an additional warrant list.

• Approved the Kansas Association of School Boards June policy updates.

• Approved the classified handbook.

• Approved the certified handbook.

All of those votes were by a unanimous 7-0 vote.

Personnel moves OK’d

Tonganoxie school board members approved personnel recommendations at Monday’s meeting.

Contract/work agreements were approved for Kelli Swift, Tonganoxie High School science teacher; Cady Calvert, student nutrition; Lana Whitten, Tonganoxie Elementary School paraprofessional; Debbie Denholm, THS paraprofessional; Ashley Kilts, TES paraprofessional; Teresa Marcoullier, Tonganoxie Middle School paraprofessional; Kristin Miner, TES student nutrition; Shayla Swaner, THS paraprofessional; Matthew Perich, THS assistant soccer coach; Ginny Reischman, THS attendance secretary; Amanda Meyers, TES aide; and Morgan Arms-Cudney, THS paraprofessional.

A transfer was approved for Adrian Monge Uribe, who is gone from TES aide to English as second language aide.

Resignations were approved for Dawn Giffin, TES special education paraprofessional; Tanner Willis, THS assistant volleyball coach and THS assistant girls basketball coach; John Tollefson, THS head cross country coach and THS assistant track coach; Scott Underwood, THS assistant wrestling coach; and Kristyn Trull, student nutrition.

Retirement was approved for Sylvia Kessinger, transportation.

Meeting dates set for next 12 months

Board members approved regular meeting dates through next June.

Meetings usually start at 6 p.m. the second Monday of each month. If the date falls on a legal holiday or a holiday the board specifies, those meetings will take place the following day at the same time. If an established meeting is canceled because of an emergency within 24 hours of the cancellation, the board will establish give notice of the new meeting date and time.

The school board also can adjourn any regular meeting to another time and place.

Established dates in 2025 are July 14, Aug. 11, Sept. 8, Oct. 13, Nov. 10 and Dec. 8. Dates in 2026 are Jan. 12, Feb. 9, March 9, April 13, May 11 and June 8.

Members approve 2025-26 choices for appointments, designations

Designations, appointments and more were approved as part of an annual vote Monday.

The Mirror is the official newspaper, First State Bank and Trust the official depository and Kansas Association of School Boards legal counsel.

Appointments were as follows: Audra Boone, clerk, KPERS representative and freedom of information officer; Rebecca Derzniski, deputy clerk; Rebecca Peresta, treasurer; Audra Boone; freedom of information officer, Audra Boone; suspension/expulsion hearing officer, Loren Feldkamp, suspension/expulsion hearing officer, authorized legal representative and hearing officer for free and reduced price meal application appeals; Barbara Smith, food service program representative; Tonya Phillips, homeless liaison, compliance coordinator for federal anti-discrimination laws and state and federal programs representative and compliance officer; Shannon Herrelson (TES), Hayes Farwell (TMS) and Kelly Hoopes (THS), building attendance representatives; and KASB governmental relations representative, 2025-26 board president.

Established rates also were approved. Mileage rate for employees is $0.65 per mile and a maximum of $30 per day for meals. The substitute teacher pay rate will be $120 for emergency/regular substitutes and $145 for long-term substitutes.

Bond amounts will be $25,000 for district clerk and $25,000 for treasurer.

Petty cash limits are $1,000 for TES, TMS and the district office and $2,500 for THS.
