A Tonganoxie man has been sentenced to more than a year of prison and jail time after being convicted of charges stemming from a 2023 motorcycle pursuit.

On Friday, Gary L. Dixon, 43, was sentenced to 14 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections for fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, according to a release from the office of Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson. He also received six months in the Leavenworth County Jail for driving while suspended, six months for no proof of insurance, 30 days for transporting liquor in an open container and 30 days for expired or no registration.

The judge ordered all sentences to run concurrently with one another but consecutively to all prior cases.

Dixon was convicted of the charges during a jury trial on July 14, 2025.

The charges arose from a Sept. 30, 2023, incident in which a sheriff’s deputy spotted a motorcycle without a license plate traveling south on 158th Street near Linwood Road. The deputy activated emergency lights and sirens, but the motorcycle continued for about 2 miles at speeds between 50 and 55 mph before stopping near 161st Street.

According to court documents, Dixon had no valid registration or insurance, and his driver’s license was revoked. Deputies also found a flask containing alcohol in his possession.

“Driving is a privilege, not a right,” Thompson said. “Fleeing from law enforcement officers endangers everyone on the road — even on rural roads,” said Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson. “This case shows that such reckless behavior has real consequences and can lead to a prison sentence.”
