Free tax assistance at the library starts soon

VITA tax volunteers and the Leavenworth County Council on Aging will have six dates for free tax assistance on select Wednesdays in February and March this year at Tonganoxie Public Library.

Anyone who is a Leavenworth County resident, is 60 years or older or is disabled and has an income less than $69,000 (with no farm or rental income) may be eligible for assistance. Some additional restrictions may apply. Tax appointments must be made in advance and can be scheduled now by calling the tax team at 913-364-5204.

Available dates at the Tonganoxie Public Library are Feb. 11, 18 and 25 and March 4, 11 and 18. The sessions start at 9 a.m. each day.

An inside look at notorious Kansas murders this weekend

Criminology professor and retired police officer Andrew Whitford will take us on a ride through the darker side of Kansas at noon Saturday at the library.

He’ll highlight several notorious cases of murder throughout the state making this program right up the alley for any true crime curious person.

Due to the nature of the content, this program is geared toward a mature audience.

Valentine’s craft for kids next week

Youths ages 5 years and older can make their own candy gift box for Valentine’s Day at our next Kids Crafter session at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

This easy craft will get kids ready for the holiday! No registration is required to attend.
