Tonganoxie Public Library, 217 E. Fourth St.Book talk series starting in September
This fall the library is hosting a three-part book talk series called Dearly Beloved.
The series will start next week and will run 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10. The first book is “The Measure” by Nikki Erlick. The series is meant to encourage thought and discussion as it relates to our lives, quality vs. quantity of life and even our deaths. Each discussion will be led by Sr. Rosemary Kolich who is a professor emeritus of English at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth where she has taught for 25 years. Future book talk discussions will happen on Oct. 8 and Nov. 12. Those interested can pick up the first book at the front desk or online with hoopla. Though it’s not necessary to attend all of the discussions, it will be a valuable experience if you do!
New activities for youths
Starting in September, the library’s children’s librarian will have a few new activities for kids to try out.
The first new offering is called Kids Crafternoons which will happen at 3:45 p.m. the first and fourth Tuesdays of the month. This is for ages 6 and older and will feature new crafts each time. The program started Tuesday, but on Sept. 23, the craft will be recycled paper.
Call 913-845-3281 to reserve a spot for your child. Another new activity is bingo just for kids. This has proven to be so popular that it will now happen monthly on the 1st Thursday at 3:45 pm, which begins tomorrow.
Food demo and sampling program returns in September
The monthly Knowledge at Noon program is back in September next week.
The program Tuesday will be soups. It’s going to be a “souper” session! Participants will learn how to stretch protein sources, how to preserve different soups and taste test recipes they’ll want to make all season long.
The program is presented by K-State Research and Extension. No registration is required to attend this tasty program!
Mini bouquet making party for teens
The library is hopping on the trend of making mini bouquets for high school dances instead of just corsages!
We’ll be making mini bouquets from a variety of available fresh flowers during our program at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 17. All flowers and supplies will be provided along with guidance, but participants will be able to select their flowers and make their own bouquet.
Make Homecoming photos pop this year! Registration is required by calling the library at 913-845-3281. Adults may also register, if desired.
