Police, sheriff’s office continue with You Drink. You Drive. You Lose.
Local law enforcement agencies are working to remove impaired drivers from Kansas roads as part of a statewide campaign that runs through this holiday weekend.
Tonganoxie police and the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office are participating in the You Drink. You Drive. You Lose. enforcement campaign, which started Aug. 17.
Drivers are advised that through Labor Day Monday, Tonganoxie police and the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office will join other law enforcement agencies across Kansas in a crackdown aimed at removing impaired drivers from Kansas roads and highways. Alcohol is the main impairing substance people think of while driving, but illegal recreational drugs such as marijuana are just as dangerous, per releases from both departments.
Driving high can still lead to a DUI, or worse. Those convicted of impaired driving will face stiff penalties, hefty financial consequences and time in jail. Officers remind residents to designate a sober driver, use rideshare, take public transportation or stay home.
The campaign is intended to remind drivers to take a moment to consider how it would be to begin each day with the memory of your decision if it resulted in another’s injury or death.
